Nigeria’s U20 team, the Flying Eagles held Egypt to a goalless draw in the first of a two-tie friendly played in Alexandria on Monday.
The match which took place in Alexandria saw the Junior Pharaohs dominating the first 15 minutes with their crisp short-passing game yet without any threat to the resolute Nigerians.
The Egyptians nearly went in front in the first half with an excellent move that took all of Flying Eagles keeper Detan Ogundare’s agility to parry for a corner.
The Nigerians stepped up the tempo of the game in the second half and practically dominated the game for the greater part, but poor marksmanship would rob them.
While the Flying Eagles are preparing to play the winner of Sierra Leone and Guinea Bissau in the second round of the 2019 Africa U20 Cup of Nations qualification series in mid-May, the Pharaohs already know they will be up against Senegalas Junior Lions of the Teranga for a place in the final qualifying campaign.
