Goalscorer Moruf Youssef was left gutted after Zamalek’s 3-1 debacle against Ismaily in the 29th round of the Egyptian Premier League.
Zamalek lost to Ismaily in the league’s second place showdown On Monday.
Mahmoud Metwally opened the score for the hosts before Moruf Youssef made things level.
But Karim Bambo and Ibrahim Hassan grabbed the three points for Ismaily with the second and third goals respectively.
With this result the Yellows have gone five points clear on the second place and managed to distance themselves from Zamalek in the race for the last spot that grants participation in CAF Champions League.
Speaking to Futbalgalore.com after the game, Youssef said, “We had the chance the game but allowed it slip off. At the end of proceedings we lost. The defeat is a bitter pill to swallow.”
“Our chances of qualifying for the CAF Champions League is not over. This is football. Anything can happen.
The Super Eagles invitee expressed joy with his goal.
“I’m very happy scoring after a very spell on the sidelines. It was such a relief for me to get on the scoresheet.
“As a midfielder my duty is to help the team and also score too. The goal is something I cherish and my objective is to get two or three more before the season is over,” he added.
