The in-form Nigeria goal poacher was on target for the Red Knights as they edged Tanta 2-1.
Nigerian striker Junior Ajayi scored his 9th league goal of the season as Al Ahly continued their winning spree by beating Tanta 2-1 on Monday evening.
The Egyptian Premier League champions secured their 16th successive league victory at the Cairo Stadium.
Following a quiet start for the first half with both teams lacking the intensity to do any damage on their opponentsa net, Amr El-Sulaya had the first real chance of the game in the 19th minute with a half-volley near the edge of the penalty box but it was denied by Tanta keeper Islam Tarek. It was a move ochestrated by Ajayi.
However, one minute away from the half-time whistle, Tanta had a huge opportunity after Seif El-Din Al-Jaziri received a great ball behind Al Ahlyas defense but his close range effort hit the side netting to keep the result level.
Near the hour mark, Ajayi managed to break the deadlock and put Al Ahly in front. After Mido Gaberas through ball found the Nigerian inside the penalty area, the latter comfortably slammed the ball into the bottom right corner.
Two minutes later, Islam Moharb was on the verge of doubling Al Ahlyas lead after an exchange of passes between El-Sulaya, Ajayi and Hossam Ghaly inside Tantaas penalty area, before it reached Moharb whose first-time shot hit the post.
Four minutes away from the final whistle, substitute Marwan Mohsen added Al Ahlyas second goal of the game after controlling Sabry Rahilas cross inside the box, then firing it into the bottom of the net.
However, in the first minute of the additional time, Tanta managed to pull one back through Mohamed Gaber who met Ahmed Khaledas delivery with a low cross that left Al Ahlyas keeper Aly Lotfy helpless.
Two minutes later, Gaber missed a golden chance for an equaliser after receiving a low cross inside Al Ahlyas box but his weak shot inched Lotfyas left post, as Al Ahly sealed the three points of the game.
Al Ahly raised their tally to 78 points at the top of the table.
