Anorthosis Famagusta attacking midfielder Nosa Igiebor was perhaps the player who celebrated most in Anorthosis Famagusta’s 2-1 victory over Omonia Nicosia in the Cyprus Championship last weekend.
Even though Anorthosis were not that trenchant at some stage in the game, they played beautifully and deserved the 2-1 win.
Igiebor told Futbalgalore.com that his decision to move forward created some nervous moments when his team counter attacked.
“Yes I observed that they tried to attack us anytime I surged forward, but I was not too afraid because I had confidence in my colleagues who were waiting at the back to defend. I had taken a risk to join the attack and so I was ready in my mind to face the consequences for it.”
He explained that his decision could not be classified as a tactical indiscipline on his part.
“In all the training sessions the coach has been encouraging us to be daring when things become tough. I therefore decided to apply his admonition because in football, common sense counts a lot. I applied common sense and I am happy that it paid off. After all, the end justifies the means.
“I therefore had to encourage myself and my colleagues to show our class over Omonia Nicosia. I am happy we did what we set our sights to do in the match.
