Defender Ubong Williams felt Abia Warriors deserved “all three points” from their 1-1 draw with Lobi Stars.
Umar Zango’s 45-metre strike cancelled out Ndifreke Effiong’s opener at the Umuahia Township Stadium on Wednesday.
“Considering the performance and the numerous scoring opportunities, we certainly deserved more,” Williams told Futbalgalore.com.
“Bizarrely, we found ourselves conceding a goal. It is to be considered a positive result I suppose, but we wanted and deserved all three points.
“Lobi Stars were very aggressive and took spaces away, but with patience we found ways through from the flanks and with long-range shots.
“We did everything possible to break through their defence, which was locked down in front of the goal. It wasn’t funny that we only managed a draw.”
Abia Warriors have 20 points from 15 rounds – seven lesser than Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) leaders Lobi Stars.
“Obviously we have a good position in the table, but considering the way we’ve played this season and the chances we’ve created, I have to say we deserved to be even higher.
“The new players have settled in well, but I had no doubts on the old guard. Seeing them train during the week, I know they can grow and improve further.
“In recent years Abia Warriors have showed a great ability to plan ahead and became a stable club in the NPFL.”
