NPFL Week 18 Wrap: Lobi Stars keep up momentum at the summit, as Akwa United bounce back to winning ways

Yobe Desert Stars and Sunshine Stars dropped points in week 18 in their respective Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matches played over on Sunday.

The Pride of Benue consolidated their grip at the top with a 1-0 win over Kano Pillars at the Aper Aku Stadium. Ayo Saka popped up with the solitary strike of the game.

Lobi Stars are first in the table with 33 points.

The Owena Whales lost away to Akwa United 2-1 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium making it 7 defeats this season.

Goals from Ifeanyi Ifeanyi and Victor Mbaoma won the match for the Promise Keepers whilst Franklin Sasere got a goal for the Akure side.

Akwa United lies fourth on the league log with 26 points.

A well oiled Enyimba earned a 0-0 draw against Wikki Tourists while FC Ifeanyi Ubah settled for a goalless draw with Enugu Rangers.

Shamassu Mohammed netted the winner for Nasarawa United as they picked a 1-0 victory over Abia Warriors.

Elsewhere at the Bako Kontagora Stadium in Minna, Niger Tornadoes pipped Yobe Desert Stars 1-0.

The first half ended goalless with both team squandering a lot of chances. Tornadoes took the lead in the dying minutes of the game through Andrew Ikefe, who secured the victory for the Ikon Allah Boys at their own backyard.

Tornadoes have accrued 27 points and are lying third on the league log after this win. Yobe have dropped to the ninth position on the league log with 23 points after this defeat.

Kwara United were forced to a 1-1 draw by Go Round in Ilorin. Stephen Alfred’s opener was cancelled out by Chidi Nwachukwu.

Katsina United’s win over Elkanemi Warriors has seen them move up to the second position on the league log with 27 points. Destiny Ashadi was the goal scorer for the Changi Boys in the fixture which ended 1-0 at the Mohammodu Dikko Stadium.
