There were no surprises from Super Eagles gaffer Gernot Rohr, who will choose 23 players from this 30-man roster to the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Earlier in the week, the former Niger Republic boss named 27 foreign-based stars in the provisional squad, most of whom will be travelling to Russia.
So, the fight for places in the final 23-man roster will be intense.
Barring any injuries, Francis Uzoho, Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Daniel Akpeyi will make the cut, with Deportivo’s Uzoho the favourite to start against Croatia in the group D opener.
The defense will definitely include Mainz’s Leon Balogun, along with William Troost Ekong and Shehu Abdullahi.
Brian Idowu and Chidozie Awaziem will also make the final cut.
Kenneth Omeruo should also be on the plane to Russia, along with one more name from the remaining group of inexperienced defenders.
If Rohr was ever going to spring a surprise, he might choose highly regarded Ola Aina.
In midfield, Rohr’s final 23 will definitely feature Ogenyi Onazi and Joel Obi.
Captain John Obi Mikel is a certain starter, alongside Onyinye Ndidi. Oghenekaro Etebo is a sure banker for Russia.
Up front, Odion Ighalo, Victor Moses, Kelechi Iheanacho, Alex Iwobi and Ahmed Musa will all be featured.
Gent’s Moses Simon – who scored against Cameroon during the qualifers is also a certainty.
Junior Lokosa got rewarded for his 18-goal rush for Kano Pillars in the Nigeria Professional Football League. The skillful forward will certainly make an impression in camp.
The notable inclusion in Rohr’s roster is Crotone big striker Simy Nwankwo, though it is hardly surprising, given his goal-scoring form for the Italian outfit.
Simy’s inclusion may mean Lokosa misses out on the final 23, unless the usually attack minded Rohr decides to take six strikers to Russia and omit three of the 10 invited defenders.
