KAA Gent and Nigeria winger Moses Simon will miss this summer’s World Cup after being ruled out for up to 3 weeks with a thigh injury.
The 22-year-old sustained the injury in Super Eagles’ training at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Thursday.
This is a terrible blow to Eagles boss Gernot Rohr who sees the ex Flying Eagles ace as central to his plans at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Simon made an impressive Nigeria debut on 25 March 2015 in an international friendly against Uganda, when he replaced Anthony Ujah after 59 minutes in the game.
He scored his first goal for Nigeria in an international friendly against Niger on 8 September 2015, the second in a 2-0 win.
He also played a key role in beating Zambia to secure qualification for the World Cup in Russia, which begins on 13 June.
Simon made 29 appearances in the 2017/18 season for Gent in the Belgian top flight.
Nigeria coach Rohr will name a 23-man World Cup squad on 4 June.
