There is tension in the air as players of the Super Eagles await the decision of coach Rohr as regards the five to be dropped ahead of the trip to London today.
Those to make the cut will be revealed after a meeting with His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR) at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday morning. The session was earlier slated for Tuesday evening. It would be an opportunity for the country’s leader to meet with and wish the three-time African champions well on their way to a sixth appearance at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Players of the Super Eagles aren’t sure of the fate ahead of the decision of the executioner.
Speculation had spread like fire on the five players dropped on Tuesday but it was dispelled by a top official of the team in chat with Futbalgalore.com.
“Gernot Rohr hasn’t dropped anyone. I can categorically tell you that. The list will be made official on Wednesday after a short meeting with His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR) at the Presidential Villa,” he told Futbalgalore.com.
“The guys are eagerly waiting for know their fates. The will be put to bed on Wednesday.”
In five previous outings at the FIFA World Cup, the Eagles have reached the Round of 16 on three occasions (1994, 1998 and 2014), but exited at the group stage at the 2002 and 2010 finals.
From London, the delegation will fly into Bad Tatzmannsdorf, a city in Austria where they will spend eight days at the world –renowned Avita Resort before flying to Russia. In-between the final camping in Austria, the team will play a final pre-World Cup friendly against the Czech Republic at the Rudolf Tonn Stadium (just outside Vienna) on Wednesday next week.
