Experienced left back, Elderson Echiejille admits it is high time the Super Eagles fought harder to surpass their record of second round elimination in the FIFA World Cup.
Nigeria have crashed out thrice in the second round in the World’s biggest showpiece.
The former Standard Liege defender believes the Eagles can go a step further in Russia.
The Eagles were forced to a 1-1 draw by Democratic Republic of Congo in Port Harcourt on Monday and Echiejille believes the atmosphere looks good for massive support for the team when they play in Russia.
“I am really overwhelmed with the support we have gotten so far. This is the first time in a while that I have seen so many people here and I think gradually the support is coming back,” Echiejille told Futbalgalore.com.
“I will like to thank the fans immensely for coming out and I want to assure them that we will be up to the task in June.”
“We will like to thank the fans for their support, we know we have the quality to sail through.”
Meanwhile, the Eagles will face the Three Lions of England in an international friendly at Wembley. Kickoff is at 5:15pm Nigerian Time.
