The FIFA World Cup has proven to be a tournament where players sometimes struggle to replicate their club form.
Beginning June 13, the best of World’s talents would assemble in Russia to lead their respective national sides with the hope of attaining glory.
For Nigeria’s Odion Ighalo, he needs to reproduce his fine scoring form in the Chinese Super League (CSL) for Changchun Yatai when the Super Eagles get their campaign underway in Group D.
Ighalo, endured a difficult U20 World Cup for Nigeria nine years ago but he is hoping to turn things around, having managed to stay fit this season and scored 7 goals so far in the CSL.
“My form this season has been great and I hope it continues at the World Cup where the level is big for me. I have the confidence and I believe it’s possible,” the forward said.
However, on a level where the best sometimes fail to shine, Odion is keeping his confidence as he focuses on the World Cup.
“But I must admit that playing in the World Cup is quite different from league and I need to keep my focus and not to be over-confident.
“This tournament will be great, everybody will like to play well so you can’t do nothing but your best,” the Super Eagles striker said.
Croatia are Nigeria’s opening opponents in Group D before games against Iceland and Argentina.
