Following two straight losses in friendly games, Ademetan Abayomi picks his Nigeria side to face Croatia in the opening game of this summer’s World Cup.
With the world cup starting in less than 10 days most Super Eagles fans are wondering who will start against the Croats.
This will be the starting eleven if I am Gernot Rohr.
GK (Francis Uzoho)
Uzoho proved this season that he is an excellent shot stopper who is great in the air and comfortable with his feet. If the Eagles have any chance in progressing past the group stage Uzoho has to start.
CB’s (John Ogu, William Troost Ekong and Leon Balogun)
Ogu is excellent at reading the game and is confident enough to play out with the ball.
Ekong is arguably the best Eagles defender at the moment. He showed great mental strength and produced some strong display in the qualifiers.
Balogun is capable of playing as a center back and right back too. He is confident carrying the ball of the defense and has plenty of pace to burn.
RWB, CDM, CM, LWB (Tyronne Ebuehi, Wilfred Ndidi, John Obi Mikel and Brian Idowu)
Ebuehi possesses great work rate and is an excellent crosser of the ball. He can chip in some assists as he proved with Ado Den Haag in the Dutch League.
Ndidi is great on the ball and a fantastic tackler which would be key when playing against Modric and Co.
Mikel will be key for the Eagles. The former Chelsea star is our best passer and possess great awareness.
Idowu is the best left back we have and is surely guaranteed to start against Croatia. Idowu has a fantastic engine and he is a great crosser and passer on the ball.
CAM (Alex Iwobi)
With this formation not giving room for a winger, I think Iwobi could start as our attacking midfielder. He possesses great pace, dribbling and shooting abilities and is also guaranteed to play well in big matches.
Strikers (Odion Ighalo and Victor Moses)
Ighalo and Moses are both great at shooting with both feet, great at headers and have all the qualities you need to be a great striker. With the Croatia defense guaranteed in making at least one mistake per game don’t be surprised if they both scored in that game.
