Super Eagles central defender William Troost Ekong says his teammates will prosecute the 2018 FIFA World Cup without fear.
The Eagles are the youngest team at this tournament, and have 18 players who could be taking part in a FIFA World Cup match for the first time.
Only skipper John Obi Mikel, Ahmed Musa, Victor Moses, Ogenyi Onazi and Kenneth Omeruo have previously played in the World Cup.
But one of the debutants, Ekong, is relishing the chance for them to prove themselves on the world stage.
“Many of us will be playing at the World Cup for the first time, but this may work in our favour, as we may be underrated and so might surprise some teams.”
The Bursaspor star declared that the Super Eagles will play without any form of phobia.
“We will play without fear,” he commented.
Nigeria will get their FIFA World Cup 2018 campaign underway against Croatia at the Kaliningrad Stadium on Saturday.
The Super Eagles have tasted defeat in their opening matches at the World Cup but they have won all their first games against European opposition.
In 1994, they beat Bulgaria 3-0 and four years later in France they came from behind to beat Spain 3-2, with Sunday Oliseh netting the winner from distance.
