“We didn’t have a creative player today.
“Mikel has been a good servant to the national team. His best position is playing in front of the defence. We saw what he did playing for Chelsea where he had a glorious career.
“The most creative player in that team is Alex Iwobi but he was played on the flanks. He (Iwobi) can play on the flanks at Arsenal because they had better players in that role like Mesut Ozil.
“The reason why we lost was because we played our best players out of their positions.
“Playing Mikel in that position didn’t help Moses and Iwobi on the flanks.”
“It’s sad that Eagles played throughout the duration of the game without any major incursion. No cutting edge. The attack was not forthcoming with any clear attempt at goal.
“Obviously, we knew and saw that the Croatians were more experienced. They had more technically sound players. But Eagles greatest undoing was not putting the defence of their opponents on pressure. It was unlike the Eagles and very unfortunate.”
“It is sad because I know we can do better than this. Of course, there is still hope but we have to do it the hard way now.
“These (Croatians) are world class players who know how to win by exploiting little details.
“I really wonder why Mikel was drafted to play a creative role instead of holding role which he is used to. Playing Mikel out of position was also part of the reason Eagles lost this game”.
Did he also play them out of place or position against Serbia, England and Czech Republic in the friendlies leading to the World Cup which were all lost? Truth is Super Eagles have been losing to better sides and until they up their game the sad trend continues.
They can still go through if they do the needful. Ironically, we don’t seem to have the reservoir of talents on the bench to replace some of the first team players who failed to come to the party against Croatia.
Qualifier for the World Cup is a different ball game to the World Cup proper as we have all seen.
