Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo has admitted that Croatia were ‘better’ than Nigeria as they went down 2-0 on Saturday night.
The Eagles got their 2018 FIFA World Cup off to the worst possible start, as the Blades deservedly defeated them 2-0 at the Kaliningrad Stadium.
“That’s sport. We have to accept defeat. We have to admit that they were better,” he told Futbalgalore.com after the game.
“It’s a delicate moment for us, but we have to solve it.”
“We did our best. We didn’t create a lot of chances going forward.”
“The first goal was an own goal while the second was a penalty. The defenders didn’t understand why the spot kick was awarded.”
“I feel the Croatians gave us a great game and deserved the three points.”
“We need to correct the mistakes noticed in this game and move to the next game.
The former Lyn Oslo forward was played with a man off his shoulder at Watford FC and thrived with more bodies around but in Nigeria he is more of a lone striker upfront. He admitted that it’s a difficult task playing on his own but says as a professional he has to adjust to any formation.
“The coach has to decide that. Sometimes it is difficult playing as the lone man upfront with more defenders coming at you. The coach decides the pattern we should play and we as players must adjust to it.”
