Super Eagles first choice goalkeeper Francis Uzoho may have had an unforgettable FIFA World Cup debut following the team’s 2-0 loss to Croatia on Saturday, the Deportivo La Coruna shot stopper showed gratitude to coach Gernot Rohr for the opportunity.
Uzoho lasted the entire match duration and made some crucial saves in the loss.
Oghenekaro Etebo turned the ball to the net for an own goal and Budweiser man of the match Luka Modric easily dispatched a second half spot kick as the Croats won at the Kaliningrad Stadium on Saturday night.
“We wanted the three points. I won’t say am happy with the result,” Uzoho said after the match.
“Am happy with coach for giving me the opportunity to make my World Cup debut. It is always a great feeling to wear the colours of my lovely country Nigeria.
With over 30,000 fans filling up the stands for the game at the Kaliningrad Stadium, the keeper declared that the atmosphere isn’t the biggest in his promising career.
“I won’t say this is the biggest crowd I have faced in my career. It is the biggest stage in my career,” he posited.
“Everything that has happened in this short space of time has taught me that you just need to keep working hard and expect anything as far as football is concerned. One need to strive harder in training and expect the best.
