Nigeria legend, Daniel Amokachi has advised the Super Eagles to draw from the heroics of Spain at the 2010 FIFA World Cup and comeback stronger in subsequent games.
The Eagles got a bitter pill with a 2-0 loss to Croatia at the Kaliningrad Stadium on Saturday night.
Spain lost to Switzerland in their first match at the 2010 FIFA World Cup and went on to win the competition in South Africa.
With two more games to play in Group D of the 2018 World Cup tournament, the former Everton star has appealed to the Eagles to use Spain’s story as a reference point to success.
“I know guys that the game wasn’t what we expected. Yes we were poor in so many areas on the day. But let’s try and be cool,” De Bull wrote via his official Twitter handle @FrenzziiiBull.
“I hope the technical bench has taken notes of the flaws.
“Remember in World Cup 2010, Spain lost in their opener against Switzerland and ended up being World Champions.
Meanwhile, journalist Biola Kazeem has taken a swipe at the unrepentant critics of the Super Eagles via his Twitter handle.
“One loss & the next thing is to turn on the team. Throw vitriolic insults at the manager. Criminalise the players & call them traitors.
“As if you all succeed everyday in your endeavours. Y’all need to look up the dictionary & see the meaning of support. Maybe see a therapist too. https://twitter.com/biolakazeem/status/1008099060459425792
The Super Eagles have a tough task against Iceland on Friday. Kickoff is at 4pm Nigerian Time.
