● Decry Plans To “Shortchange” Them
● Say Organizers Want To Pay Honorarium To Ex-Int’ls Only
The planned reopening of Enyimba Int’l FC Stadium, Aba may have suffered a major set back following the last minute discovery by the ex-players of the two-time CAF Champions League winners that the organizers of the event have considered that they should be part of the honorarium to be paid to the ex-internationals who have been invited for the event.
According my sources in Aba, a novelty game has been scheduled for Sunday 26th August, 2018 between ex-internationals and Ex-Enyimba players to give the stadium reopening event a befitting status. The organizers had planned to pay the ex-internationals a token each for gracing the event but the Ex-Enyimba players were not taken into consideration. Perhaps they are just invited to come play the game and walk back home.
Says one of my sources, “This is absolutely unfair. I wonder why this will happen under the watch of Chief Felix Anyansi with all his experience as a football administrator. I even doubt if he is in the know of this sad development. Why would anyone who knows football decide to treat ex-players of the club most of whom have even played in the national team this way?
“I hear that some of the ex-players who are already in Aba are threatening to boycott the game tomorrow. This won’t do the image of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Abia, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu any good. He is already working hard for his reelection in 2019 and this event is part of his political machineries since the people of Aba and Abia at large are football lovers. But with this kind of treatment meted out to the ex-players some of whom are based in Aba, it could give a wrong signal about the governor, his administration and sports in Abia in particular.
“I pray wise reasoning and counselling prevail. I also pray His Excellency is in the know of this ugly development. He is a sports lover and he loves equity. He will surely kick against this because what is good for the goose is equally good for the gander. I believe this act is just the product of the organizers and not a directive from His Excellency, the sports commissioner or even Anyansi.”
Yours Sincerely scooped that some of the invited ex-internationals include Pastor Taribo West, Ike Shorumu, Vincent Enyema, Victor Agali, Victor Ikpeba, Uche Okechukwu, Daniel Amokachi, Samson Siasia and Mutiu Adepoju among others.
The Ex-Enyimba players invited are Bob Osim, Emeka Nwanna, Ogbonnaya Okemiri, Obinna Nwaneri, Victor Ezeji, Ndidi Anumnu, Ifeanyi Azuike, Uga Opara, Chidozie Johnson, Oporoocha, Muri Ogunbiyi, Joetex Frimpong, David Tyakassi, Emeka Akume , Musa Aliyu, Onyekachi Okonkwo, Abubakar Musa, Prince Olomu and Atanda Sakibu among others.
