Former Super Eagles and Chelsea defender Celestine Babayaro has reasoned with the Nigerian public that is enraged by the omission of Wilfred Ndidi from the 2018 CAF Best XI team.
Including Ndidi, CAF’s 2018 Best XI did not including any Nigerian-born players, given wake to an uproar in the West African nation.
Former national star Babayaro has weighed in his views on the issue, explaining that other footballers ‘did more.’
“Ndidi didn’t do badly, to be honest, but in 2018 Partey and Keita did more mainly due to their involvement in the Champions League and Europa League, something Ndidi didn’t have with Leicester last season”, Babayaro said.
The 40-year-old Babayaro who won the FA Cup, UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup and UEFA Super Cup with Chelsea, concluded with a positive view.
“If we are to be fair that gave them an edge over Ndidi who didn’t do badly. Nigerians should understand that we dominated this award in time past and we will no doubt do same in the future with the wave of young talents coming through.”
