Chelsea’s on-loan defender Ola Aina could be set to make his move to the Stadio Olimpico Grand Torino permanent, with Walter Mazzarri looking to tie down the Nigerian international.
The Chelsea defender is currently enjoying a year-long spell with Granata and has come to prominence in 22 appearances.
Tuttosport reports that the Serie A side have an option to sign the 22-year-old for a fee of €10 million, a valuation that the club are willing to meet, citing his professionalism and versatility across the back line as justification for retaining him.
Aina had a stint in the English Championship last season with Hull City before returning to Chelsea and then immediately sent back to Torino.
At age 22 Aina is already a Nigeria international with 5 caps to his name. Both at club and national team level, he has spent most of his time on the pitch as a full-back, playing on either flank of the field.
Now under the tutelage of Mazzarri, the manager who made Napoli famous with his trademark 3-5-2 tactics, he is being asked to play a bit further — and with a sharper edge in attack — as a wing-back for the Turin side.
Before making his choice to join Torino, Aina had several teams to choose from. Key to his decision to join Torino was not just playing time but the appeal of working with a coach such as Mazzarri, in a country that Aina already enjoyed thanks to his travels there during his holidays.
