Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi bagged a brace but was unable to prevent his side Royal Excel Mouscron from slumping to a 4-2 loss against Waasland-Beveren in a Belgian First Division A Playoff Europa League Group B game at the Stade Le Cannonier on Friday.
The match started as a brisk pace but Waasland fell behind in the 34h minute when Awoniyi scored for Mouscron.
However, Beni Badibanga drew Brugge level four minutes later.
Both sides went into recess level at the break.
Denzel Jubitana made it 1-2 for the visiting team from Nana Ampomah’s assist.
On-loan Liverpool striker Awoniyi equalised for the Les Hurlus in the 71st minute. It was his 11th goal of the league campaign.
Brugge were much more motivated and raced into a two-goal lead. Both goals were scored by Francesco Forte and Nana Ampomah.
