Ademetan Abayomi picks his Nigerian side to face Qatar in their opening game of this summer’s U20 FIFA World Cup.
Seven-time African champions Nigeria will open their FIFA U20 World Cup against Qatar next Friday, with matches against USA and Ukraine to follow in Group D.
With the World Cup starting in less than a week most Flying Eagles fans are wondering who will start against Qatar.
This will be the starting eleven if I am the coach of the Nigerian national team.
In the past couple of seasons, Detan Ogundare has established himself as one the best goalkeeper’s and one of the best keepers in the Nigeria National League. Ogundare proved this season that he is an excellent shot stopper who is great in the air and comfortable with his feet. If Nigeria have any chance in progressing past the group stage the Kogi United custodian has to start.
Valentine Ozornwafor, Igoh Ogbu, Ikouwem Utin and Muhammad Rabiu all have a bright future in football.
Valentine Ozornwafor has showed that he is someone to be trusted. He is showed that he his excellent at reading the game and is confident enough to play out with the ball.
Igoh Ogbu showed great mental strength and produced some strong display in the tour of Austria.
Ikouwem Utin is the captain of the Flying Eagles team. The young defender is capable of left back very well. He is is confident carrying the ball out of the defense and has plenty of pace to burn.
Muhammad Rabiu possesses great work rate and is an excellent crosser of the ball. He can chip in with a few goals too.
Nnamdi Ofoborh has re-invented himself. He used to be an aggressive player who wasn’t comfortable on the ball. But now he is great on the ball and still is a fantastic tackler which would key when playing against the Qataris.
Kingsley Michael will be key for the Flying Eagles. He is intelligent and possesses great awareness, i believe that if Michael starts Nigeria will go far in the World Cup.
Success Makanjuola is the only left winger we have and is surely guaranteed to start against Qatar. Makanjuola has a fantastic engine and he is a great crosser and passer on the ball. He is guaranteed to play well in big matches.
Aniekeme Okon has arguably been our best player since the qualifiers and will be key if Nigeria are to go far in the World Cup. He possess great pace, dribbling and shooting abilities.
Henry Offia and James Adams are both good at shooting with both feet, great at headers and have all the qualities you need to be a great striker. With the Qatar defense guaranteed in making at least one mistake per game don’t be surprised if they both scored in that game.
