Despite being dropped for the Super Eagles squad for the 2019 Afcon finals in Egypt, defender Semi Ajayi has wished the team good luck in the competition.
After coach Gernot Rohr cut Rotherham United player from the earlier roster of 25, the Super Eagles and their full complement of technical and administrative officials, alongside their Zimbabwean counterparts with whom they played a 0-0 draw in a friendly on Saturday, flew together to Ismailia aboard a chartered MAX Air flight from Asaba.
The Rotherham United defender who scored seven goals in the 2018/19 English Championship season wrote via Instagram: “Wishing my brothers the best of luck at the upcoming #AFCON2019. It’s been a privilege to have been part of this squad. As much as I’m gutted that I can’t make it I wish everyone linked with the Super Eagles the very best of luck this summer. I will be supporting the team until the end. Go and make Nigeria proud my brothers.”
Nigeria play Burundi, Guinea and Madagascar in that order in the group phase of the competition scheduled for 21st June – 19th July.
