Southampton could swoop for an Italian second-tier striker. According to The Sun, Southampton have joined the hunt for Spezia striker David Okereke.
Crystal Palace and West Ham United were linked with Okereke in January alongside Belgian sides Standard Liege and Genk. Now it seems Southampton have entered the race.
This report notes that Southampton have carefully followed Okereke’s progress. And in the coming weeks, they could firm up their interest with a bid.
Okereke plays for Spezia in Serie B – Italy’s second division. In the 2018/19 season, the 21-year-old impressed with a total of 10 goals in 30 games. He also had 12 assists.
The Nigerian striker has spent his entire senior career in Italy, coming through the ranks at Spezia and spending time on loan at Cosenza. He also has represented Nigeria at U23 level.
According to transfermarkt, Okereke’s contract lasts until 2022. But could he be Southampton’s striker for the future?
