First, it was Odion Ighalo who came on to deliver the three points against Burundi…and now Kenneth Omeruo in another second half goal to send Eagles to the round of 16 after beating Syli Nacional of Guinea.
Ighalo and Omeruo have been around this team for sometime just like team skipper John Obi Mikel and his deputy Ahmed Musa….indeed they are coming good in this tournament.
Let’s just hope the sterling performance of the Big Boys will spur the younger players like Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze to bigger things in Egypt. It is still early days in the tournament though but with the confidence level of the team rising, Nigerians should be expecting a solid outing by the boys in this tournament.
Like I said in a previous piece here stating why Super Eagles may likely pick their fourth AFCON title in Egypt….The team excels when nothing is expected of it from its fans. The boys are not under pressure hence the best of them may be seen in Egypt.
Omeruo has challenged the entire team with his goal. If he can score as a defender then, anyone in this squad should be able to score. Of course, goals win games….even if they come in drops (of 1-0) like the wins against Burundi and Guinea.
Once Super Eagles can score and keep clean sheet then, they can look at the trophy with confidence.
