Super Eagles Manager Gernot Rohr expressed satisfaction after his Nigeria side continued their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign with a 1-0 win over their Guinea counterparts at the Alexandria Stadium on Wednesday, reports Futbalgalore.com.
The much-changed Eagles qualified for the second round with two wins from two matches.
In a Press Conference attended by Futbalgalore.com Rohr said: “The game was played at 3:30pm. It was a difficult one for the players. Congratulations to the players. They gave a good account of themselves in this condition. It was so hot.
“It wasn’t easy and we started slowly because we knew Guinea had a good team and perfect organization.”
Rohr made five changes to the side which beat Burundi 1-0 but the three-time African champions picked three points against their West African rivals, albeit it took until the 73rd minute to get the winning goal through a sweet header from Kenneth Omeruo.
“We made five changes to the team that defeated Burundi. The spirit was the same. The professionalism of my players was very crucial.”
Moses Simon whipped in a corner and Omeruo got in front of his marker at the near post to glance home the game’s only goal in the 73rd minute.
“With the time and passion, we made the difference from the corner kick. We put a lot in training on set pieces. I’m satisfied with the five players that came into the side for the game against Guinea. The spirit was the same. It is good to know that we have qualified ahead of the final group with Madagascar. There are no injury worries. Everybody can focus on the next game.”
The Super Eagles play Madagascar in their final group game on Sunday.
