Madagascar Manager Nicolas Dupuis has assured that his team are “fully focused and committed” to go toe to toe with Nigeria in Sunday’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group B game, reports Futbalgalore.com.
The Barea play against the Super Eagles at the Alexandria Stadium in Egypt, and Dupuis explained that his men know they have a big game on their hands.
The island nation defeated Burundi 1-0, courtesy of a fantastic 76th-minute free-kick converted by Marco Ilaimaharita in their second Group B game on Wednesday.
After seeing off the ‘tough’ challenge from Burundi to earn four points from two matches, Dupuis says he is pleased with the team’s hard-fought victory as they inch closer to securing a spot in the last-16 round.
“I am so happy because of this victory. It was our first in the history of the Afcon and we worked hard for it,” Dupuis told reporters in Alexandria.
“It was not an easy match because Burundi gave us a tough time especially in the second half.
“But we can be proud of our efforts, we can be proud of what we achieved but the work is not yet over. We still have Nigeria to think about.”
Nigeria currently sit top of Group B of the 2019 AFCON with six points, two ahead of their opponents in second place while Guinea and Burundi are in third and fourth positions respectively.
The Nigeria versus Madagascar match is live on SuperSport from 5pm this Sunday.
