Plateau United duo of Emmanuel James and Ogene Elijah are the latest players linked to league champions as the Aba side has cast their eyes at the players with a view to adding them to their fold as they prepare for the new season.
Enyimba, who were crowned winners of the 2019 Nigeria Professional Football League after the championship playoff, have started rebuilding their squad after the departure of Valentine Ozornwafor (Galatasaray) and Ikuowen Utin (Maccabi Haifa).
Emma James and Ogene Elijah have come highly recommended and Enyimba is looking to tie up a deal for the duo soon.
James is a versatile player who can play as a defensive midfielder, a centre back and a right-back while Elijah, though primarily a centre back, is equally comfortable as a defensive midfielder.
James told 9jafooty that he welcomes the interest from Enyimba as he is also seeking new challenges after running out his contract with Plateau United.
“It has been an interesting three years at Plateau because I got to win the league and play continental football with them but I think the time has come to try somewhere else,” he enthused.
“Jos is a beautiful place and playing with this group of players have been good. I have learnt a lot here under Kennedy Boboye and Abdu Maikaba.
“But every good thing has a beginning and an end. I had made up my mind to leave at the end of the season when my contract finishes.
“It is also pertinent to say I wasn’t released by Plateau United as suggested by some online mediums. My contract expired and we decided to part ways amicably with the club. I have had a few offers that I and my representatives are looking at and we will make a decision soon.
Ogene Elijah also told 9jafooty that he is grateful for the opportunities in Jos but he feels the time is right to test himself elsewhere.
“After three years in Jos, I believe it is time I test myself elsewhere. I want to seek fresh challenges and test myself,” he said.
“I gave my all these past years for Plateau United and even though I will miss the city, I have to try to take my career to another direction.
“Winning the league and playing continental football was the highlight of my stay here (Jos). I will grateful for the experiences here but after the expiration of my contract, I think it is time to look elsewhere.” Elijah added.
