Super Eagles Manager Gernot Rohr says he is satisfied with his team’s performance at 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) despite criticisms from different quarters, reports Futbalgalore.com.
The six-time World Cup finalists blew hurt and cold in the first round of AFCON 2019 but found their groove at the knockout phase.
Eagles will face Algeria in the semi finals of the 2019 AFCON at the Cairo International Stadium on Sunday.
At a World Press Conference attended by Futbalgalore.com on Saturday, Franco-German gaffer Gernot Rohr evaluated his team, including revealing his best moment as a coach and the role of captain John Obi Mikel in Eagles setup.
“The team is playing good. I heard a lot of positive comments about the way we have played in this tournament,” the former Niger Republic boss said.
“We played so well against South Africa, they didn’t have a shot on target in the first half. We easily scored two goals. Cameroon tie is one of the best games of the tournament.
Rohr, 66, reminded the Media that his young team play offensive football and have good solidarity.
“We play offensive football, we have young players with pace, we have good wingers and good solidarity. My team is giving good image of the country, they never give up. I’m satisfied with their performance so far,” he remarked.
“The most important thing will be in the future. The past is the past. I have a lot of wonderful times to remember. In Bordeaux, I managed the team with Zinedine Zidane to play against my former club Bayern Munich in the final of the European Cup.”
“We had so many good times together. The coaching career is like that of a player. I usually tell my players to enjoy the moment. The best moment is when you are a player.”
“We have John Obi Mikel with us. Mikel is not playing at the moment but he is motivating the team to perform.”
