Central defender Kenneth Omeruo has disclosed that the Super Eagles of Nigeria players are focused on Sunday’s semi-final fixture of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) against Algeria and are not swayed by the Fennecs’ “Mango Tree” antics.
Both teams are past winners of the AFCON and they are seeking a final ticket in the 2019 edition of the tourney.
North African teams like to set players up and easily fall down like “Mango Tree” during football matches.
Speaking ahead of the game, Omeruo disclosed that they are not allowing anything to distract them ahead of the tie and that they are looking forward to winning.
“One thing my coach has always said over and over again is no fouls especially around the box,” Omeruo said at a World Press Conference attended by Futbalgalore.com.
“The best way is to step up and be at alert. They have quick players. We know this and we are also quick as well. We have to be very careful and make sure there is no contact especially around the 18 yard box.
“It’s football and nothing is new. It happens everywhere, attackers will try to fall down and draw fouls. The best way is to stay smart and think ahead.
The Chelsea defender declared that the “hard to crack” Eagles will be ready for the Fennecs after recovering from the battle with South Africa.
“Nigeria is a very difficult side as well. We have been recovering in the last two days to make sure everyone is ready and fit for tomorrow’s game. We are looking forward to it,” he player who defended the colours of Middlesbrough in the past added.
