Coach Gernot Rohr has congratulated the Fennecs of Algeria on their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi final feat over the Super Eagles at the Cairo International Stadium on Sunday, reports Futbalgalore.com.
The equally disappointed Rohr admitted his frustration with the last gasp free kick netted by Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez. He also congratulated Algeria on the hard fought victory.
“It was a great fight until the last minute,” the Franco-German mused following the loss at a Post Match Press Conference attended by Futbalgalore.com.
“Algeria had a better first half than us but we came back in the second half. We thought Algeria could be tired in extra time and we could win it.
“We are sad that we lost of course, but congratulations to Algeria. We won the last game against South Africa late and today we lost. That is football.”
Nigeria will be up against Tunisia in the third place match at Al Salam Stadium on Wednesday.
