With John Obi Mikel expected to bow out of international duties after the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Arsenal star Alex Iwobi has been tipped to takeover the iconic number 10 jersey at the senior national side.
Mikel will retire from playing from the national side and thereby give room for another player to takeover the jersey.
Many names have been touted to don the jersey that holds special significance for the Super Eagles.
Etim Esin, Henry Nwosu, Austin Jay Jay Okocha and John Obi Mikel have given football fans joy when they suited up in the jersey.
Despite being the best candidate for the mantle, Iwobi who has functioned as the playmaker of the Super Eagles at Egypt 2019 isn’t really thinking about such possibility. According to him, number 10s are special players.
“I haven’t been thinking about that. I’m more concerned about how the team performs,” Iwobi said at a World Press Conference attended by Futbalgalore.com on Tuesday.
“Number 10s are special players. I always want to give my best for Nigeria. Any number is good for me.”
