Central defender William Troost-Ekong says it has been a “huge honour” to have played with captain John Obi Mikel.
The iconic number 10 has drawn the curtain on his national team career following the Super Eagles’ Bronze medal success at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Ekong was Mikel’s teammate in the U23 and senior national for three years.
The Udinese defender hailed the Trabzonspor midfielder as a “Legend” following a successful career for the Super Eagles.
“Mikel is a legend. It has been a pleasure playing with him,” Ekong told Futbalgalore.com.
“He has represented Nigeria at the World Cup, Olympic Games and AFCON.”
“I am very happy to have shared a dressing room and field with him. I hope it’s not the end for him. I will also like to play with him in future. Everyone knows how much he has done for Nigerian football and I think he is a legend that should be respected.”
