Olympic Eagles coach Imama Amapakabo says Tuesday’s 5-0 win over Algeria which booked a spot in the finals of the 2019 Africa U23 Cup of Nations is dedicated to all Nigerians.
After a first leg performance last Thursday which ended 1-0 in favour of Sudan, there was doubts over the ability of the Olympic Eagles.
The Olympic Eagles advanced 5-1 on aggregate and will join hosts Egypt, South Africa, Zambia, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Ghana and Mali for the tournament
Nigeria will be playing in the tournament – which serves as a Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games qualifiers.
”This win is not for only them [Nigerian players] and technical team. It’s for Nigerians as a whole.” the former Enugu Rangers head coach told Futbalgalore.com.
The 2019 CAF U23 Cup of Nations will run from 8-22 November with the top three countries qualifying for the Tokyo 2022 Olympic Games.
