Nigeria international Taiwo Awoniyi didn’t feature for Mainz in their 2-1 win against Hertha Berlin on Saturday.
The hosts did well to win at Opel Arena in the German Bundesliga on Saturday.
Goals from Robin Quaison and Jerry St. Juste probed to be enough to fire Sandro Schwarz’s side to victory.
Despite impressing for the Olympic Eagles in the 5-0 win over Sudan on Tuesday, on-loan Liverpool forward Taiwo Awoniyi was an unused substitute in the German top flight fixture.
Awoniyi initially joined Liverpool in August 2015 having starred for Nigeria in the U17 World Cup two years earlier.
The striker has since enjoyed loan stints with FSV Frankfurt, NEC Nijmegen, Royal Excel Mouscron (twice) and KAA Gent.
The 21-year-old scored a total of 14 goals in all competitions in 2018-19, during spells with both Gent and Mouscron.
Taiwo Awoniyi signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool in the summer of 2018.
