Futbalgalore.com selects the best 11 players of the Gov Okowa Pre Season Tourney as Kwara United claimed the pcrown at Lobi Stars’ expense.
Emmanuel Iwu – Kwara United
Kwara United won the Tourney thanks largely to the work of Emmanuel Iwu. There isn’t much room for discussion left as to who deserves this more.
Son Samuel – Kwara United
Dede Moughara – Kwara United
Lukman Binuyo – Rivers United
Alex Aghahowa – Lobi Stars
MVP Dede Moughara was excellent throughout the competition, with his world class crosses at the right side. He made probing runs up and down his flank to keep opponents honest. Meanwhile, another thriving element of the Harmony Boys’ back line was their centre back Samuel Son who defended well and marshalled the back line with precision.
While Lobi Stars lost to Kwara United in the final, Alex Aghahowa walked away from the campaign with his image untarnished. He wasn’t afraid to sacrifice himself for his team.
Finally, Lukman Binuyo rounds out the back-four with his commanding high energy performances for Rivers United.
Bakari Bamba – Rivers United
Afeez Nosiru – Niger Tornadoes
Chinedu Udeagha – Lobi Stars
Chinedu Udeagha played an important role in the Lobi Stars’ march to the final with two goals to his name.
Another player in the XI is the irrepressible Bakari Bamba who was undoubtedly Rivers United’s man of the tournament. He exhibited some of the finest dribbling on his way to scoring two stunning goals and creating countless opportunities for his teammates.
Coach Abubakar Bala correctly described Afeez Nosiru as a reference for Tornadoes and it was easy to see why at this tournament. He is the glue that holds the Tornadoes squad together.
Amos Ogbuagu – Abia Warriors
Abdulkareem Mumini – Lobi Stars
Imade Osarenkhoe – Bendel Insurance
Abdulkareem Mumini’s work rate off the ball was crucial for the Pride of Benue. He came close to wrapping up the final just before the game went to penalties but goalkeeper Iwu denied him.
Pint sized Amos Ogbuagu deserves to be in the Team of the Tournament as a testament to his skills and productive runs. It won’t be much consolation to him but he was the embodiment of class, and arguably the best winger at the tournament.
Meanwhile, lmade Osarenkhoe was just as important for Bendel Insurance, as he waltzed past defenders and finished with two goals.
