Organizers and Rivers United technical crew in the #AhlanCup2019 on Friday morning paid a visit to the Day Science College, State Road, Nasarawa, Kano in the Dr Sherif Inuwa initiative to encourage young Nigerians in schools to effectively combine education with sports.
Respected coach Stanley Eguma led the powerful delegation. Coach Ndubuisi Nduka and Joseph Buma were also present at the school.
Organizing committee member Abdallah Ali was also at the event that had large attendance of students.
Powerful gentlemen of the Press, Abdul Momoh of Sports Pro News and Ademetan Abayomi editor of Futbalgalore.com covered the event for Ahlan Cup Media.
Eguma, a graduate of Zoology at the prestigious University of Port Harcourt, lectured the students numbering over one thousand.
He said that engaging in sports and focusing on education can help them become bread winners in their various families. The former Heartland, Sharks, Enyimba and Dolphins coach urged the students to go the extra mile in ensuring that they engage in one sport or the other, as this will go a long way in aiding their easy assimilation of studies as sports will enable them to be mentally alert at all times.
The former Nigeria U23 coach declared that ‘Football is the King of all Sports’.
“Football is the King of all Sports. When you go to the Stadium, it is usually filled up with lovers of the game. Football gives money and large followership,” the coach explained.
“Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Ahmed Musa and Samuel Chukwueze are footballers. They have made a lot of money in the round leather game.
“Kanu Nwankwo and Joseph Yobo are players I nurtured at grassroots. They are former captains of the Super Eagles and currently doing well at retirement.”
“Footballers are endowed with educational skills. Seyi Olofinjana, Emeka Ogbuh, Fred Obomate, Ini Umotong and Ikechukwu Ibenegbu are popular footballers that are educated. Super Falcons striker Umotong graduated from the University of Southampton with a first class honour in Economics and Actuarial Science.
“There is need for you to develop your talent and aspire higher. Football doesn’t stop you from pursuing your educational career.
The students asked questions on how they can become successful footballers.
The trio of Abdulrauf Baffa, Jamilu Jibril Shuaibu and Abubakar Aminu were unanimous in their love for Super Eagles forward Ahmed Musa.
According to the students, they are aspiring to become footballers in future and possibly surpass the achievements of the Al Nassr star.
