The Umuahia Township Stadium is now wearing a new look, thanks to the Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Okezie Ikpeazu, who issued a directive that the stadium’s glory must be restored.
When our correspondent visited the stadium on Thursday, we saw that the turf has been regrassed.
“The Governor is not only interested in the renovation and repair of Umuahia Township Stadium, but he is interested in ensuring that the routine work in all the facilities owned by the government go on, while we wait for funds for their proper renovation and management,” an insider at the Stadium told our correspondent in Umuahia.
The new image indicates the Stadium is 70 percent complete for the start of the 2019/20 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.
Last season, there was massive criticisms of the usage of the Umuahia Township Stadium for NPFL matches due to the poor state of the Turf.
Umuahia Township Stadium is one of the venues for the 2019/20 NPFL and will host Abia Warriors’ home matches.
