Minister of Youths and Sports Sunday Dare continued to keep tongues wagging with his high level of transparency and diligence in office.
The Oyo-born administrator earned more admirers as he approved the release of funds to refund the IAAF overpayment wrongly creditors to the Athletic Federation of Nigeria (AFN).
The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) mistakenly granted the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) $150,000 instead of $15,000 in 2018.
The amount paid was supposed to be the annual grants to member federations for the year 2017.
When the IAAF accountants discovered the error, the AFN was asked to refund the $135,000 excess; after the money disappeared.
“I have approved the release of funds to refund the IAAF overpayment wrongly credited to the Athletics Federation of Nigeria. In a few days from now the funds should hit the account of the IAAF baring any interbank delays. With this Nigeria’s reputation is regained.
“IAAF refund approval is for the outstanding balance of $65,000-sixty five thousand US dollars. The first trench of the refund was made by the former Minister. I have only completed the refund because it is the right thing to do,” Youths and Sports Minister Sunday Dare tweeted.
Sunday Dare was praised by Nigerians for his high degree of transparency in restoring the battered image of Nigeria in the Athletics cycle.
