After Nigeria’s victory over Hungary, we need to talk about the five things we learned from this victory from Samson Tijani and Co.
Five–time champions Nigeria swept past Hungary 4-2 in the opening match of the 2019 FIFA U17 World Cup finals in Brazil on Saturday night, with three goals in six second half minutes that were just reward for the persistence and determination of the Golden Eaglets.
We need to analyze this victory in detail, we will go through the five things we learned from Nigeria’s win against the Hungarian squad.
5. Wisdom Ubani still needs some time to adjust.
Fit again striker Wisdom Ubani struggled with the pace of the game.
Manager Manu Garba should have introduced the skillful lad in the second half, but he will soon make everybody realize how valuable he can be.
Ubani will continue to be an important player for the Golden Eaglets, and he will gradually transform into one of the best players at the U17 World Cup.
Last night, he played for more than 70 minutes and he left a few details of his quality.
4. This Nigeria side can win another FIFA U17 World Cup tournament.
Nobody imagined that the new generation of Nigeria U17 players would be as talented as they are right now, they have some of the most exciting talents in a long time.
Their work as a unit is the main reason we believe that something great could be in store for them, they truly are one of the rivals to beat.
This Golden Eaglets side need good centre-backs in order to reach an even higher level, they have a few years left in order to win a record seventh U17 World Cup.
3. Nigeria’s front line is absolutely scary for any rival.
It’s not just Wisdom Ubani, the Eaglets squad has some really scary names on their roster and they could instill fear in anybody.
Samson Tijani’s talent leads the way to players such as Akinkunmi Amoo and Ibrahim Jabaar.
All of these names are upcoming talents, they can truly make the competition shake with fear.
They were in full power last night and Hungary didn’t come close to their level, but we still want to see all of them playing together from the very beginning.
2. Leaky back line.
A team that aims to overcome the enemies should build a solid rock at the back.
Keeping clean sheet is necessary for a title contender. This has been an issue for the Golden Eaglets in the last 12 months.
The two goals netted by the Hungarians could have been avoided if the back line was shrewd and coordinated.
1. Samson Tijani is a beast
The one reason why we believe that Nigeria has what it takes to win the tournament in Brazil is due to the X-Factor that Samson Tijani offers to the team.
The skipper paddled a sinking boat and ensured that they were resurrected.
Tijani’s contributions transformed into a beautiful thing to watch, everybody in Nigeria is excited about the possibilities.
His distributions, ball winning skills and sharpness helped the Golden Eaglets mount a spirited fight back.
